Using the Optimization Engine

The Optimization Engine helps you discover opportunities to improve your website through A/B testing. Instead of leaving you wondering what to optimize next, it analyzes your website and identifies pages that may be worth testing.

The Optimization Engine uses some heuristics to identify elements that deserve attention. All recommendations are suggestions—you remain in complete control over which tests to create and run.

How the Optimization Engine Works

The Optimization Engine continuously looks for optimization opportunities across your website. The heuristics it uses include things like:

  • recently published content;
  • high-traffic pages;
  • important pages such as he Homepage, Pricing or Contact pages;
  • pages linked from your site’s navigation;
  • pages that haven’t been tested recently; or
  • pages where a previous test has recently finished.

Rather than presenting an empty dashboard, Nelio A/B Testing proactively recommends your next tests, helping you build a continuous optimization process instead of treating A/B testing as a one-time activity.

AI-Powered Suggestions

When Use AI to Generate Suggestions is enabled, you can click Generate test ideas on one of the recommended opportunities. Nelio AI analyzes the selected page and suggests possible changes you could test.

At the moment, AI-generated ideas focus primarily on CSS & Text Tests. Once you choose an idea you want to try, Nelio A/B Testing can create the corresponding test for you to review and configure before starting it.

⚠️ Note: AI-generated suggestions are recommendations only. Nelio A/B Testing never starts a test automatically without your approval.

Traffic Analysis

The Traffic Analysis option helps the Optimization Engine prioritize recommendations based on how visitors use your website.

When enabled, Nelio considers information such as:

  • pages receiving significant traffic;
  • frequently visited landing pages;
  • content that attracts the most visitors; and
  • pages where optimization is likely to have the greatest impact.

This helps ensure that recommendations focus on opportunities that can produce meaningful results.
