What Does a Test Need Before It Can Start?

Before starting a test, make sure you’ve configured:

  1. A test name – Give the test a clear, descriptive name.
  2. A control and at least one variant – Nelio A/B Testing needs at least two versions to compare.
  3. A conversion goal – Define at least one goal with one or more conversion actions so Nelio can measure the performance of the variants.

Depending on the type of test, you may also need to configure additional information, such as the content being tested or its test scope.

What If I Haven’t Created a Variant?

You don’t necessarily need to modify or manually create an alternative before starting the test.

If no alternative content has been created, Nelio A/B Testing can create an identical copy of the control, resulting in an A/A test.

In an A/A test, both versions are identical. This can be useful for validating your setup and checking that tracking and variant assignment are working correctly before introducing actual changes.
