How Does Nelio AI Work?
Nelio AI helps you discover what to test and turns its suggestions into A/B tests that are ready for you to review and run.
Instead of having to come up with an idea, create the test, configure its variants, and define how success will be measured, Nelio AI can help you through the whole process.
Getting Test Ideas From the Overview
The What should we test next? section in the Overview displays optimization opportunities identified by Nelio A/B Testing’s Optimization Engine.
The Optimization Engine helps identify where you may want to focus your optimization efforts, while Nelio AI helps you determine what you could test for a particular opportunity.
To generate ideas:
- Go to Nelio A/B Testing → Overview.
- Find an opportunity you’re interested in under What should we test next?
- Click Generate test ideas.
- Nelio AI analyzes the selected opportunity and displays a list of Test Suggestions.

Reviewing Test Suggestions
Nelio AI generates several possible tests for the selected opportunity.
Each suggestion describes a specific change that may be worth testing and explains why the proposed change could improve the page.
For example, Nelio AI might suggest:
- making a headline more benefit-focused;
- changing the wording of a primary call to action;
- simplifying a paragraph to make it easier to scan; or
- strengthening the wording of an important message.
These suggestions are hypotheses, not guarantees. The proposed change may or may not improve your results—that’s precisely what the A/B test will help you determine.
If none of the suggestions is what you’re looking for, click Create test from scratch to configure your own test instead.
Creating a Test From a Suggestion
When you find an idea you want to try, click Create Test.

Depending on the suggestion, Nelio AI can automatically configure:
- a test name and description based on the proposed idea;
- the control version;
- an alternative version implementing the suggested change;
- a conversion goal and conversion action for measuring the expected outcome; and
- the appropriate test scope for the content being tested.
For example, if Nelio AI suggests simplifying a paragraph, it can create an alternative with rewritten copy and configure a conversion action that measures whether visitors are more likely to perform the relevant action.
This means you don’t have to implement the suggested change from scratch. Nelio AI creates the alternative for you, and you can then review, edit, and preview it before starting the test.
Reviewing the Test Before Starting It
AI-generated tests are never started automatically.
Once the test has been created, you can review its entire configuration just like any other Nelio A/B Testing test.
In particular, you can:
- review and edit the generated variant;
- preview the alternative to see how it will look to visitors;
- modify the conversion goal or actions;
- review the test scope;
- add segmentation if needed; and
- change any other test settings before starting it.
Once you’re happy with the configuration, click Start to launch the experiment and let your visitors determine whether the AI-generated alternative actually performs better.
Getting Test Ideas When You First Start
Nelio AI is also part of the Welcome experience for new users.
During onboarding, Nelio analyzes your homepage and suggests potential tests to help you launch your first experiment without having to decide what to test from scratch.
From there, you can select a suggestion, review the test Nelio creates for you, and start it when you’re ready.
