How Do Reusable Goals and Segments Work?
f you regularly create A/B tests, you probably find yourself configuring the same conversion goals and audience segments over and over again.
Reusable Goals and Reusable Segments let you save these configurations once and use them in future tests, helping you create tests faster and maintain consistent tracking across your website.
Typical examples include:
- newsletter subscription goals;
- WooCommerce purchase goals;
- contact form submissions; or
- commonly used visitor segments.
Saving a Reusable Goal or Segment
You can save a goal or segment while editing any test.
- Configure the goal or segment as usual.
- Click the Settings (⚙️) button.
- Click Save.
- Choose whether to:
- create a new reusable item; or
- overwrite an existing one.
- Give it a descriptive name and save it.

Once saved, the reusable item becomes available to import into other tests.
💡 Tip: Use descriptive names such as Newsletter Signup, Contact Form, or Returning Visitors to make reusable items easier to identify.
Importing Reusable Goals or Segments
When creating a new test, you can import previously saved goals and segments instead of creating them from scratch.
To import reusable items:
- Open the Goals or Segments section.
- Click Import.
- Select one or more reusable items.
- Choose whether to:
- Add the selected items to the goals or segments already configured in the test; or
- Replace the current goals or segments with the selected reusable items.

This is particularly useful when multiple tests share the same success criteria or audience definitions.
Managing Reusable Items
To manage your reusable goals or segments:
- Open the Import dialog.
- Click Manage.
From there, you can:
- rename reusable items; and
- delete items you no longer need.

Editing a Reusable Goal or Segment
If you want to modify the configuration of a reusable goal or segment—for example, changing its conversion actions or segmentation rules—you’ll need to:
- Import it into a test.
- Make your changes.
- Save it again, overwriting the existing reusable item.
This ensures reusable items remain independent of the tests that use them.
Reusable items aren’t linked to the tests where they’re used. Importing a reusable goal or segment creates a copy of its configuration.
Do Changes Affect Existing Tests?
No.
When you import a reusable goal or segment, Nelio A/B Testing copies its configuration into the test.
If you later modify, rename, or delete the reusable item, tests that already imported it remain unchanged. Only future imports use the updated configuration.
