How Do I Reset My Assigned Variant?

When you participate in an A/B test, Nelio A/B Testing assigns you to a variant and stores that assignment in your browser. This ensures you continue seeing the same version throughout the test, providing a consistent experience and reliable test results.

Sometimes, however, you may want to reset your assignment—for example, when testing your tests or verifying that different variants are displayed correctly.

Option 1: Use the Debug Tools (Recommended)

If you’re testing your tests in Staging Mode or using the nabstaging query parameter, open the Debug Panel. The popup shows the variant currently assigned to your browser and provides controls to reset your assignment without manually clearing cookies. This is the easiest way to test different variants during development.

Option 2: Clear Your Browser Cookies

If the Debug Popup isn’t available, you can remove your current assignment by deleting the cookies created by Nelio A/B Testing and then reloading the page. Or you can manually set a different value to nabAlternative and then reload the page.

Why Doesn’t Reloading the Page Change the Variant?

Reloading a page does not assign a new variant. Once a visitor has been assigned to a variant, Nelio A/B Testing keeps that assignment for the duration of the test. This prevents visitors from switching between variants and ensures the test remains statistically valid.

If you want to see a different variant, you must first reset your assignment using one of the methods described above.
