How do I add an external featured image?

Using a featured image in a post is a very visual way to invite the visitor to read. This image appears in your post listings in a preview that usually appears alongside the text, depending on the theme you are using in your WordPress.

Nelio Content allows you to insert an external image as a featured image of a post using its URL, so that it behaves as close as possible to selecting it from your media library.

To do this, first make sure that in the Advanced Nelio Content Settings you have activated the “Enable external featured images” box. In this way, when you edit any post, you will see the option to select an external featured image in the Nelio Content Tools menu.

Copy and paste the URL where the image is located and don’t forget to fill in the Alt text field with useful content for both search engines and screen readers (used by visualy impaired people).

Note that this way you can also insert an animated image (.gif) in your posts.

Notice. Please note that most WordPress themes are designed under the assumption that featured images will be available in the media library. Therefore, your theme may not be able to display external featured images.
