Since 4.1, we’ve focused on two things: making it dramatically easier to get started and giving teams flexible, reliable link shortening across networks.
Nelio Content 4.2 introduces a guided setup for new users and compatibility with popular link shortener services, plus a small but important cleanup fix on deactivation. Here’s how it all fits together, followed by a concise changelog at the end.
Share cleaner links with flexible shorteners
Long, parameter-heavy URLs can distract from your message and make posts feel cluttered. In 4.2, you can decide exactly how links look—and where they’re shortened—using the services your team already trusts: Bitly, TinyURL, Rebrandly, YOURLS, Shlink, Short.io, T.ly, and Polr.
Set a global default so every message across your site uses the same shortener by default, then fine-tune at the profile level when a specific network (or team) needs a different provider. This is particularly useful if your brand uses a vanity domain on Rebrandly, or if your organization prefers a self-hosted option like YOURLS, Shlink, or Polr for privacy and control.

When you schedule a message, Nelio Content automatically shortens any URLs in the post using the rules you’ve configured, so editors don’t have to think about it.
If you run multiple brands, you can align each social profile with the shortener that matches that brand’s conventions, while still keeping a site-wide default for everything else. The result is cleaner posts, consistent link formatting across channels, and link management that adapts to how your team actually works—whether you’re optimizing for branding, simplicity, or central reporting.
A guided setup that gets new users productive in minutes
Getting started should feel like momentum, not a maze. After initializing the plugin, a brief three-step guided setup leads new users through the essentials so they can see value immediately.
First, there’s a space to enter your Nelio Content Premium license key (optional), which unlocks premium capabilities right from the start if you have one. Next, you’ll connect your social profiles—the most important step for turning your editorial calendar into a true publishing hub. Finally, you create your first social message, experiencing the scheduling flow end-to-end with real content.

Once those three steps are complete, the flow drops you into the editorial calendar, already primed with the connections and context you just configured. New teammates can go from installation to a scheduled message in minutes, without hunting through disparate settings pages. And because the setup mirrors the way you’ll actually use Nelio Content—license (if applicable), profiles, then message—it builds familiarity with the core actions you’ll repeat every day. The aim is simple: eliminate guesswork, accelerate first publish, and make the calendar feel like home from day one.

Nelio Content
I’m so happy about Nelio Content that I will sound like a payed advocate… but here’s why you’ll love it: it works as promised, its auto-scheduling feature is top-notch, Nelio’s value for money is unmatched, and the support team feels like your own.

How this release helps your team
Whether you’re a solo creator or part of a larger team, 4.2 reduces friction at both ends of the funnel. New users can onboard themselves without asking “what now?”, and your social posts benefit from consistent, trackable links that match your analytics and branding needs.
Because you can set a default shortener and override it per profile, the “right” choice happens by default while preserving flexibility for special cases. Under the hood, we also tightened the cleaning process on plugin deactivation, leaving your environment tidier when you remove the plugin in staging or during tests—small detail, big peace of mind.
Getting started
Update to Nelio Content 4.2. If you’re new, the guided setup appears automatically after initialization—follow the steps to add your license (optional), connect profiles, and craft your first message, then dive into the calendar.
If you’re already using Nelio Content, visit Settings → Social Media → Advanced to choose a global shortener, and adjust per-profile preferences in your social profile settings for fine-grained control.
