Puzzle, by Ashkan Forouzani

We’re excited to announce the release of Nelio A/B Testing 7.5! This new version brings a variety of updates designed to enhance your testing and optimization experience. One of the most anticipated additions is the brand new test type: Synced Pattern Tests, which allows for more precise control and analysis on multiple pages all at once. We’ve also revamped our CSS tests by integrating a visual editor, making it more user-friendly and intuitive for all users, regardless of their coding skills.

Moreover, we’ve added an integration with Google Analytics 4, meaning you can now send all your A/B testing events directly to Google Analytics. This integration opens up even more opportunities to analyze your test results and gain additional insights in the platform you already use.

And that’s not all — we’ve added new conversion actions to track important metrics like time on page and scroll depth, helping you gain deeper insights into user behavior. Along with these major updates, we’ve also included several minor improvements to ensure the plugin continues to run smoothly.

Keep reading to discover all the exciting details of what’s new in Nelio A/B Testing 7.5!

Synced Pattern Tests

In WordPress, patterns are predefined design elements or layouts that you can reuse across your site, such as headers, footers, or specific content sections. There are two types of patterns: Synced Patterns and Unsynced Patterns.

Synced Patterns are reusable design elements that maintain consistency across multiple pages or posts. When you update one instance of a synced pattern, those changes automatically apply to every other instance where that pattern is used. This ensures uniformity and saves time when you need to make changes sitewide.

On the other hand, Unsynced Patterns are independent. Once you insert an unsynced pattern into a page, it becomes a unique instance that only applies to that specific page. While this provides more flexibility for customizing individual pages, it also means that any updates need to be made manually for each instance across your site.

The new type of test we’ve introduced, Synced Pattern Tests, is designed specifically for synced patterns. This is because synced patterns are the only type that can be identified across your entire website and replaced with an alternative version when needed. Their consistency makes them ideal for A/B testing, as you can test variations of a synced pattern and automatically apply those changes to all instances where said pattern appears, ensuring a cohesive testing experience across your site.

Creating synced pattern tests in Nelio A/B Testing is as easy as creating any other type of test–just select the pattern you want to test and then create one or more alternative patterns or test it against other existing patterns.

Just like with regular page tests, Synced Pattern Tests allow you to test existing synced patterns against each other. You can select an existing synced pattern as your control version and another synced pattern as your variant B. Whenever one of these patterns (whether variant A or variant B) appears anywhere on your website, our plugin will ensure they’re replaced by the variant the current visitor is supposed to see. This means you can easily test variations of key design elements across your entire site, maintaining consistency and delivering a seamless experience for your users, no matter where they land.

Moreover, you can also create a Synced Pattern Test where each variant is a bespoke version created specifically for that test. In this case, you first select an existing pattern as your variant A, and then create one or more variants within the test itself. These variants will start as an exact copy of variant A, but you can then modify them as needed to test different changes.

This latter type of test is especially powerful because, once the test is complete, you can easily apply the winning variant across your entire website with just one click. This is something that’s not possible when testing existing patterns against each other, as those patterns are already in use across your site. With bespoke variants in a synced pattern test, you have more flexibility and control, and you can seamlessly implement the winning changes sitewide.

Revamped CSS Tests with a Brand-New Visual Editor

At Nelio A/B Testing, our goal has always been to create a plugin that’s user-friendly and accessible to everyone, regardless of technical expertise. We wanted to make sure that anyone could use it without needing advanced coding skills. However, as the plugin evolved, we also aimed to make it more powerful for advanced users, which led to the addition of some more complex tests, such as CSS, JS, and PHP tests, which do require some coding knowledge.

With this in mind, and in keeping with our commitment to accessibility, we’re excited to introduce a visual CSS editor. This new feature puts control back into the hands of users with less coding experience, allowing them to create and customize CSS tests using a visual interface similar to the native WordPress editor.

You can now easily tweak fonts, colors, spacings, borders, backgrounds, and more, all through an intuitive, user-friendly interface. This update empowers users to make changes to their site’s design without having to write a single line of code, while still offering the flexibility needed for more complex customizations.

Integration with Google Analytics 4

One feature that a lot of users have requested over the past few years is better integration with Google Analytics 4. Well, we’re excited to announce that this feature is now live in Nelio A/B Testing! After setting it up, you can now have all the tracking events that our plugin collects sent directly to your Google Analytics account.

As we mentioned earlier, this integration opens up more opportunities to analyze your test results and gain additional insights, all within a platform you already use and are familiar with: Google Analytics. It’s a seamless way to enhance your data analysis and make more informed decisions about your A/B tests.

New Conversion Actions

Finally, Nelio A/B Testing 7.5 introduces two new conversion actions designed to help you better understand how each variant engages your visitors.

The first is the Time on Page action. With this option, a conversion is counted when a visitor remains on the tested page for at least a specified amount of time. This is particularly useful for measuring engagement beyond just clicks or form submissions—if your goal is to keep users reading or interacting with your content, this metric can offer valuable insights into which variant is more effective at holding their attention.

The second new conversion action is the Scroll Depth action. This triggers a conversion when a visitor scrolls down the page to a certain point that you define. It’s another powerful way to measure user engagement—especially for content-heavy pages—by showing you which variant does a better job of capturing interest and encouraging users to keep reading or exploring. By tracking how far down the page your visitors go, you can identify which version of your content is more compelling and engaging.

Other Minor Improvements

Yup, there’s more! Here’s a rundown of all the other minor changes included in this update:

  • Add compatibility with Spectra Gutenberg Blocks
  • Add new listener to track add-to-cart conversions triggered by WooCommerce’s new wc-blocks_added_to_cart event
  • Add warning message in page/post tests when users name variants using URLs. This helps clarify that they may want to test existing pages instead and guides them toward the appropriate test mode
  • Fix compatibility with super admin users in multisite installations
  • Fix Elementor compatibility layer that unexpectedly hid theme builder templates and editor elements
  • Remove “Test title and content only” option from page/post tests
